History

The
immersive
factory

Kunstkraftwerk Leipzig began as a coal-fired power and heating plant, built in the early 1900s in the city’s western industrial belt.

In 2012, its cultural future took shape. The original industrial architecture was preserved, not as a relic, but as a structure ready to be reactivated. By 2016, Kunstkraftwerk opened its doors as Germany’s first permanent center dedicated entirely to digital and multimedia art. Floor-to-ceiling projections, soundscapes, and interactive installations occupy the former machine rooms and turbine halls. Visitors move within immersive environments where image, light, and sound are carefully choreographed to transform space into experience.

Today, Kunstkraftwerk stands as a cultural landmark in Leipzig — built on three pillars: immersive art, events, and creative production.
